Emily Stano, Psy.D.Psychologist
I received my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University in Louisville, KY. I have professional experience working with children, teens, families, and adults of various races, religions, sexual and gender identities, and cultures in a variety of settings such as schools, community mental health clinics, outpatient mental health clinics, hospitals, university counseling centers, and private practice.
I completed a pre-doctoral internship at The Grand Valley State University Counseling Center in Allendale, MI. During my internship, I conducted individual and group therapy, psychological and career assessments, and on-call crisis intervention services. I completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute Child and Family Therapy Clinic in Columbia, MD, where I conducted individual, group, and family therapy, as well as psychological assessments.
Before pursuing my doctoral degree, I graduated from Churchill High School in Potomac, MD; therefore, I am uniquely qualified to understand the academic and social pressures experienced by young people in Montgomery County.
My specialties include working with children and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, challenging peer relationships, and identity issues. I work with families to navigate parenting concerns, stressful relationships, and significant life changes. I also work with people of all ages experiencing chronic health conditions that impact daily life. I employ techniques from several evidence-based treatment modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). In treatment, I aim to help people learn skills to better navigate their current struggles, and to become more effective problem solvers in the future.
Additionally, I conduct psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. These assessments can provide diagnostic clarification and aid in treatment planning, as well as help to identify strengths and weaknesses related to intelligence, academic skills, emotional functioning, and social functioning. After completing the assessment, I provide and discuss with you with a detailed report, including concise and applicable recommendations, tailored to your individual needs.
